Dr. Nick Torres, PT, DPT

Founder & Physical Therapist | "The Manual Man"

Dr. Nick Torres searches beyond traditional physical therapy for a deeper way to heal. His cornerstone beliefs—Learn, Teach, Love, Heal—guide every aspect of his practice. Nick's journey began when he met the Godfather of Manual Therapy and founder of Institute of Physical Art, Dr. Gregg Johnson. For the greater part of a year, Nick watched their every move, learning how to heal with precision and intention. He also worked side by side with Dr. Saltas, exploring and imbuing the full potential of breath and its impact on posture and pain in the human body. Dr. Torres believes that behind every intention, behind every manual technique, behind every exercise cue, there must be compassion and love to hold it up strong and true. He absolutely loves what he does, and it is because of that love that he has excelled in this field.

What Astoria Patients Say About Us

"Every session is one-on-one attention—no putting you on a machine and running to see other patients. My shoulder is now feeling better than ever, but they also identified other issues with limited range of motion. My posture and spinal alignment have all been fixed, and my body is feeling better than it has in a long time. I can't recommend these guys enough."

— Todd — Verified Google Review

"Having worked with many physical therapists throughout my career, I can say that Nick is the only one who has successfully resolved my issues within just a few sessions. Nick's deep knowledge of anatomy, biomechanics, and posture is exceptional. I highly recommend avoiding generic, 'cookie-cutter' physical therapy; Nick and his staff are true healers."

— Varvara K. — Verified Google Review

"His depth of knowledge is incredible, but what really sets him apart is how clearly he explains everything. Every time I come in with an issue, he breaks down exactly what's happening in my body, what's causing the problem, and what I need to do to fix it—in a way that actually makes sense. He's thoughtful, thorough, and genuinely invested in getting you better."

Your Questions Answered

1. How is The Manual Shop different from traditional physical therapy?

We focus on finding and treating the root cause of your pain, not just managing symptoms. Every session is one-on-one with expert manual therapy—no assistants, no machines, no cookie-cutter exercises. We provide comprehensive full-body analysis and personalized treatment plans tailored to your unique body and goals.

2. What should I expect at my first session?

Your first visit includes a thorough assessment and hands-on treatment. We'll analyze your movement patterns, identify underlying issues, and begin manual therapy work. You'll leave with a clear understanding of what's causing your pain and a personalized plan, including take-home exercises to accelerate your recovery.

3. What is a Discovery Call and do I need one?

Our free 30-minute Discovery Call is an opportunity for us to learn about your condition, discuss your goals, and determine if we're the right fit—before you commit to treatment. It's completely complimentary and there's no obligation. Many patients find it helpful to ask questions and feel confident before starting.

4. What conditions and injuries do you treat?

We treat a wide range of sports injuries and chronic conditions including back and neck pain, shoulder injuries, runner's knee, ACL injuries, plantar fasciitis, TMJ dysfunction, and more. We also work with athletes on injury prevention, return-to-sport training, and performance optimization through running gait analysis and movement assessments.

5. How long are sessions and how many will I need?

Sessions are typically 45-60 minutes of one-on-one time with your therapist. The number of sessions varies based on your condition, goals, and progress. Many patients see significant improvement within just a few visits. We'll discuss a personalized timeline during your initial assessment.
